Description: relief, relief, Attica – Material: marble – Dating: 140/160 – Discovery: (not specified) – Description: Represented are the god, Asklepios, and the goddess, Hygieia. Asklepios ist shown wrapped in a himation and leaning upon his staff, about which a snake is coiled. Hygieia is dressed in a chiton and a himation and holds a phiale in her right hand. Both dieties are represented in the form of famous Attic statue-types. The widely copied figure of Asklepios may go back to the cult image of the Asklepieion in Athens. The figure of the goddess approximates to that of the Hope Hygieia.
