Title: MID23896, SMID25071
Description: sarcophagus, relief, Roman – Material: marble – Dating: 100/200 – Discovery: Torre Nova – Description: Initiationsdarstellung in die eleusinischen Mysterien: Einweihung des Herakles: Links Baum, daneben girlandengeschmückter Altar. Rechts davon steht ein Jüngling (Eubouleus, Eumolpos, Iakchos?) mit Fackel. Am rechten Rand ebenfalls ein Jüngling mit Fackel, der noch mit einem Kantharos über einem kleinen brennenden Altar libiert. Ihm gegenüber ein Bärtiger der ebenfalls libiert und auf seiner Linken eine Platte mit Früchten hält. Hinter ihm sitzt wohl der Initiant. Auf seinen Stuhl lehnt eine junge Frau mit gesenkter Fackel (Persephone?). Hinter ihr sitzt Demeter mit bakchos auf der Cista mystica. Im Hintergrund der Darstellung befinden sich verschiedene weitere Personen. Zuordnung zu Festen: Eleusinische Mysterien (Deubner). Rückseite: Laut Curtius Darstellung der Alkestis mit zwei Peliaden.

Description: loutrophoros, vase painting, red figured, Apulia – Material: terracotta – Artist: Darius Painter – Dating: -330 – Discovery: (not specified) – Description: Kreousa (Lorbeerkranz, Hiketidenzweig) auf Rundaltar (Basis, Deckplatte, Asche) stehend, auf dem ausserdem ein Panther steht und zwei grosse Schlangen sich winden. Am Boden um den Altar lange Girlande mit breiten Ringen und angehefteten Täfelchen/Pinakes. Links unten Löwe, rechts unten Greif. Links Xouthos (Vogelszepter, Lorbeerkranz) und Jüngling, rechts Frau mit Thymiaterion und Frau mit Fächer.# Oben Apollon (auf Schwan, Lorbeerzweig, Lyra), über Apollon sitzt Eros und giesst eine Libation aus, links sitzender nackter Jüngling (Ion?) im Gespräch mit einer stehenden Frau (Entschleierungsgestus), Bukranion; rechts sitzende Frau, die Hände hinter dem Kopf an einen Baum gefesselt (?, Kreousa?); rechts aussen eine sitzende Frau mit Sonnenschirm. Schauenburg weist überzeugend nach, dass es sich hier um einen Altar und keine Basis handelt. – Inscriptions: Auf Rand des Rundaltars: ?????S?.
