Description: wall painting, wall painting, Roman – Dating: 45/79 – Discovery: Ercolano, Herculaneum, Herculanum – Description: Auf den Stufen eines Tempels steht ein Priester, der ein goldenes, auf einem Blütenkranz ruhendes Gefäss mit verhüllten Händen hochhält. Er wird flankiert von einer Frau mit sistrum und situla und einem dunkelhäutigen Mann mit sistrum, links und rechts davon je eine Sphinx und eine Palme. Es könnte sich bei dem Trio um Darstellungen der Isis, des Anubis und des Osiris Kanopos (ein Wassergefäss mit Verschluss in Form eines Osiriskopfes) handeln. Vor den Stufen des Tempels wird vom Kultpersonal an einem grossen, rechteckigen Altar ein Opfer vorbereitet: ein weiterer Priester am Fuss der Stufen weist mit dem rechten Arm nach links, er dirigiert wohl den zu beiden Seiten des Altars in Reihe stehenden Chor. Im Vordergrund in der Mitte steht der Altar, über den sich von rechts ein Priester mit Fächer und ??? beugt. Von rechts nähert sich eine Person mit langem Stab über der Schulter, neben ihm sitzt ein Flötenspieler. Links des Altars stehen zwei Frauen mit sistra in der rechten Hand, sie neigen den Oberkörper wie im Tanz nach links. Der Altar ist in Vorderansicht dargestellt mit seitlichen Windschutzplatten, ihn schmückt eine Girlande. Vor dem Altar zwei Vögel (Ibisse), ein weiterer sitzt rechts vor der Sphinx.

Description: votive relief, relief, Roman – Material: marble – Dating: -130/-120 – Discovery: Marino, Bovillae – Description: Relief des Archelaos von Priene in vier Registern. Oberstes Register: in der Landschaft lagernder Zeus mit Szepter in der Rechten, neben ihm ein Adler. Zweites und drittes Register: Darstellung der neun Musen und Apollons, sowohl sitzende als auch stehende Musen mit kithara, Doppelaulos, Schreibtafel oder Tamburin. Dazwischen eine Opferszene in einer Höhle, in der Apollon mit kithara vor einem Ophalos steht, auf die eine weitere Muse eine Libation ausführt. Auf einem Zwischenniveau auf der rechten Seite steht eine weitere Frau mit Blick auf Zeus, die vielleicht als Mnemosyne, die Mutter der Musen, interpretiert werden kann. Unterstes Register: Opfer für den vergöttlichten Homer an einem Rund-Altar (Basis, Abschlussprofile, Focusplatte), auf den die Personifikation Historia Weihrauchkörner streut. Homer sitzt links auf einem Thron mit Szepter und Fackel in der Hand; der Thron wird gestützt von zwei knieenden weiblichen Figuren (die Personifikationen von Ilias und Odyssee mit Schwert und Schiffsheck als Attributen). Hinter dem Thron stehen eine geflügelte männliche (Chronos) und eine weibliche Gestalt mit kalathos (Oikoumene), die ihm eine Krone aufsetzt. Vor dem Altar ein kleiner Opferdiener mit oinochoe und phiale in der Hand, hinter dem Altar ist in flachem Relief ein Stier erkennbar. Es folgen nach rechts Historia und drei Adorantinnen, von denen die vordere (Poiesis) zwei Fackeln in die Luft hält, die beiden hinteren (Tragodia und Komodia) strecken einen Arm empor, mit dem anderen halten sie das Gewand an der Hüfte. Description: votive relief, relief, Roman – Material: marble – Dating: -130/-120 – Discovery: Marino, Bovillae – Description: Relief des Archelaos von Priene in vier Registern. Oberstes Register: in der Landschaft lagernder Zeus mit Szepter in der Rechten, neben ihm ein Adler. Zweites und drittes Register: Darstellung der neun Musen und Apollons, sowohl sitzende als auch stehende Musen mit kithara, Doppelaulos, Schreibtafel oder Tamburin. Dazwischen eine Opferszene in einer Höhle, in der Apollon mit kithara vor einem Ophalos steht, auf die eine weitere Muse eine Libation ausführt. Auf einem Zwischenniveau auf der rechten Seite steht eine weitere Frau mit Blick auf Zeus, die vielleicht als Mnemosyne, die Mutter der Musen, interpretiert werden kann. Unterstes Register: Opfer für den vergöttlichten Homer an einem Rund-Altar (Basis, Abschlussprofile, Focusplatte), auf den die Personifikation Historia Weihrauchkörner streut. Homer sitzt links auf einem Thron mit Szepter und Fackel in der Hand; der Thron wird gestützt von zwei knieenden weiblichen Figuren (die Personifikationen von Ilias und Odyssee mit Schwert und Schiffsheck als Attributen). Hinter dem Thron stehen eine geflügelte männliche (Chronos) und eine weibliche Gestalt mit kalathos (Oikoumene), die ihm eine Krone aufsetzt. Vor dem Altar ein kleiner Opferdiener mit oinochoe und phiale in der Hand, hinter dem Altar ist in flachem Relief ein Stier erkennbar. Es folgen nach rechts Historia und drei Adorantinnen, von denen die vordere (Poiesis) zwei Fackeln in die Luft hält, die beiden hinteren (Tragodia und Komodia) strecken einen Arm empor, mit dem anderen halten sie das Gewand an der Hüfte. Ganz rechts folgen ein Kind (Physis) und vier weitere Frauen als Zuschauer (Arete, Mneme, Pistis und Sophia, die Personifikationen von Tugend, Erinnerung, Treue und Weisheit). – Dimensions: H: 94,6 cm; B: 83,8 cm
