Description: lekanis, vase painting, black figured, Boetia – Material: terracotta – Dating: -540/-530 – Discovery: (not specified) – Description: Extensive procession in honor of Athena who, as Promachos, stands between a flaming altar and a column. There is a snake behind her and a bird sitting on top of the altar. The procession is led by a kanephoros, then follows a bull with a man next to it holding a wreath, an auletes, a man holding the ropes attached to the bull’s legs, and four men carrying wreaths, knives (?) and an oinochoe. At the end two mules pulling a chariot with a charioteer and three men in it. A man with a staff walks behind the chariot. The image may be associated with the cult of Athena Itonia at Koronea. Zum Altar: Altarkörper aus Quadern in isodomer Weise in drei Schichten errichtet, hinten ein zweischichtiger Windschutz.

Description: crater, vase painting, Attica – Material: terracotta – Dating: -760/-735 – Discovery: Attica – Description: Prothesis in zwei Ebenen, oben der Verstorbene (Amarynkeus) flankiert von einer sitzenden Trauernden und einer kleinen stehenden Figur (ein Sohn?), unten Trauernde auf Hockern sitzend mit erhobenen Armen. Von links nähern sich weitere Klagefrauen, in der Szene rechts ein Zug von Kriegern mit toten Tieren zur Bahre. Die Krieger tragen Schwert und Dolch (machaira) mit Ausnahme des 5. bis 7. Kriegers. Der 6. und 7. halten eine Reihe toter Vögel und in ihrer Rechten einen länglichen Gegenstand, der ein Messer mit breiter Klinge sein könnte. Ganz rechts folgt das mythische Doppelwesen Aktorione. Auf der Rückseite ist ein Dreifuss, ein Krieger und ein Wesen mit zwei behelmten Köpfen sowie vier Armen und Beinen. In einer unteren Zone Wagenrennen. Identifiziert werden kann die Szene anhand der Präsenz des Doppelwesens Aktorione, das laut Homer bei den Leichenspielen des Königs Amarynkeus gegen Nestor antrat (Il. 23, 638–642). – Dimensions: H: 1,3 m; Dm Mund: 0,825 m
