Description: lekanis, vase painting, black figured, Boetia – Material: terracotta – Dating: -540/-530 – Discovery: (not specified) – Description: Extensive procession in honor of Athena who, as Promachos, stands between a flaming altar and a column. There is a snake behind her and a bird sitting on top of the altar. The procession is led by a kanephoros, then follows a bull with a man next to it holding a wreath, an auletes, a man holding the ropes attached to the bull’s legs, and four men carrying wreaths, knives (?) and an oinochoe. At the end two mules pulling a chariot with a charioteer and three men in it. A man with a staff walks behind the chariot. The image may be associated with the cult of Athena Itonia at Koronea. Zum Altar: Altarkörper aus Quadern in isodomer Weise in drei Schichten errichtet, hinten ein zweischichtiger Windschutz.

Description: sarcophagus, relief, Etruria – Material: nenfro – Dating: -300/-290 – Discovery: Vulci – Description: Etruskischer Sarkophag mit den Porträts der verstorbenen Eheleute. Auf der Hauptseite in der Mitte Ehepaar stehend mit Handreichung (einer Mischung aus griechischem Fassen am Handgelenk und römischem dextrarum iunctio), links der Frau ein junger Mann mit Sonnenschirm. Ihnen folgen jeweils Diener/-innen mit Statussymbolen und je eine Musikerin (links mit Kithara, rechts mit Flöte). Die Diener des Mannes tragen sella curulis, fasces, lituus-Trompete (kein lituus) und Horn, die Dienerinnen der Frau Kiste, Kanne, Fächer und situla. Auf der einen Schmalseite zweirädriger Sitzwagen mit «cross-bar»-Rädern, von zwei Maultieren gezogen, darauf, auf einer Sitzbank mit Lehne zwei Frauen, die eine hält einen Sonnenschirm. Vor ihnen der Wagenlenker auf dem Wagenboden sitzend. Im Hintergrund eine Todesdämonin mit Schlange in der Hand. Auf der anderen Schmalseite ein Mann auf einem von einer Pferdebiga gezogenen Streitwagen, begleitet von einem Diener mit lituus-Trompete. Die Deutung der Hauptseite als Hochzeit ist abzulehnen; es handelt sich um Abschied oder Begegnung der Eheleute in funerärem Kontext. – Dimensions: H: 88 cm; W: 73 cm; T: 210 cm – Inscriptions: Die etruskische Inschrift nennt die Eltern des Mannes (Arnth Tetnies und Ramtha Visnai) sowie den Namen der Verstorbenen (Larth Tetnies und Thanchvil Tarnai), vgl.
