Über ihn beugt sich eine Frau mit Palmzweig, die von dem Felsen mit einer Amphora Wasser ausgiesst (Quellenymphe). Description: frieze, relief, Asia Minor – Material: marble – Dating: 200/225 – Discovery: Pamukkale, Hierapolistheatre, scaenae frons; frieze above the porta regia – Description: Apollon- und Artemiszyklus im Theaters von Hierapolis in allen drei Geschossen der scenae frons: – Apollonzyklus (in der Reihenfolge der Reliefplatten nach Ritti): 1.a: die heilige Hochzeit: Leto, Zeus und weitere weibliche Person. 1.b: 3 Mägde stehen um Leto, die auf einer Kline lagert, davor sitzt die eine Magd und badet das Apollonkind. 1.c: Apollonkind mit Fackel zwischen Baum und Felsen. Über ihn beugt sich eine Frau mit Palmzweig, die von dem Felsen mit einer Amphora Wasser ausgiesst (Quellenymphe). Rechts steht eine weitere Frau. 2.a: Kampf. 2.b: Links Apoll mit Palmzweig an brennendem Altar, neben ihm ein Lorbeerbaum. Rechts Tod des Adonis in den Armen der Aphrodite. 2.c: Gigantomachie: links Athene, mittig Apollon auf Greifenwagen. Davor Ge, hinter ihr ein Gigant mit Schlangenfüssen. 2.d: Krönung des Apollon. 3.a: Links der leierspielende Apoll. Rechts spielt Athena an einer Quelle auf der Flöte, die ihr aus Schreck über ihr Spiegelbild im Wasser entgleitet. Unterhalb der Quelle lagert eine Quellpersonifikation. 3.b: Der musikalische Wettstreit zwischen Apoll und Marsyas: Marsyas, mit Nebris, nimmt die Flöte und spielt darauf. Rechts sitzt eine Nymphe auf einerm Felsen. 3.c: Links steht Apollon, der von Nike bekrönt und von Olympos angefleht wird Marsyas zu verschonen. Rechts wird Marsyas abgeführt. 3. d: Er wird an einen Baum gefesselt, daneben wird ein Messer gewetzt. Oberhalb davon hängt die Flöte.
