The god is seated on a throne under a canopy of Doric columns (= inside the temple) that is framed by two tripods. An omphalos (hemispherical shaped, with stemmata) is in front. Next to it a bearded man with a long staff who watches the procession as it approaches. Led by a kanephoros, the procession further includes seven male youths all wrapped in himatia and wearing laurel wreaths. The kanephoros is richly dressed and holds the kanoun with both hands. There is a thymiaterion (Zacc. TypB²) between the two youths following her. The third youth holds a phiale in his r. hand. Two sacrificial bulls are led by the following three figures. The iconography and composition link this vase to the Parthenon Frieze. Description: wall painting, wall painting, Roman – Dating: 45/79 – Discovery: Ercolano, Herculaneum, Herculanum – Description: Auf den Stufen eines Tempels steht ein Priester, der ein goldenes, auf einem Blütenkranz ruhendes Gefäss mit verhüllten Händen hochhält. Er wird flankiert von einer Frau mit sistrum und situla und einem dunkelhäutigen Mann mit sistrum, links und rechts davon je eine Sphinx und eine Palme. Es könnte sich bei dem Trio um Darstellungen der Isis, des Anubis und des Osiris Kanopos (ein Wassergefäss mit Verschluss in Form eines Osiriskopfes) handeln. Vor den Stufen des Tempels wird vom Kultpersonal an einem grossen, rechteckigen Altar ein Opfer vorbereitet: ein weiterer Priester am Fuss der Stufen weist mit dem rechten Arm nach links, er dirigiert wohl den zu beiden Seiten des Altars in Reihe stehenden Chor. Im Vordergrund in der Mitte steht der Altar, über den sich von rechts ein Priester mit Fächer und ??? beugt. Von rechts nähert sich eine Person mit langem Stab über der Schulter, neben ihm sitzt ein Flötenspieler. Links des Altars stehen zwei Frauen mit sistra in der rechten Hand, sie neigen den Oberkörper wie im Tanz nach links. Der Altar ist in Vorderansicht dargestellt mit seitlichen Windschutzplatten, ihn schmückt eine Girlande. Vor dem Altar zwei Vögel (Ibisse), ein weiterer sitzt rechts vor der Sphinx.

Description: stamnos, vase painting, red figured, Attica – Material: terracotta – Artist: Dinos Painter – Dating: -420/-410 – Discovery: Nocera de’ Pagani – Description: Stamnos mit der Darstellung des Lenäenfestes (?): Seite A: Im Zentrum ein Maskenidol des Dionysos umgeben von Mänaden. Das Idol trägt einen Efeukranz auf dem Kopf, ein mit Sternen verziertes Gewand, an dessen Gürtel ein Kranz hängt und ein langes Untergewand. Am Fuss wachsen Pflanzen, hinter den Schultern entspringen Weinreben, links und rechts am Hals hängen tympana. Davor ist ein Kulttisch zu sehen, auf dem ein kantharos und zwei stamnoi stehen. Eine Mänade mit langen Haaren und Hirschfell schöpft aus einem der stamnoi Wein in einen skyphos. Die Mänade links von ihr trägt zwei thyrsoi und hat den Kopf in den Nacken geworfen; rechts des Tisches eine Mänade mit tympanon und eine weitere mit Fackel und thyrsos. Die beiden letzteren werden in Beischriften als Mainos und Dione benannt. Alle vier tragen Peplos und Efeukranz. Seite B: Vier Mänaden in einem Festzug, die vorderste mit Flöte, die zweite mit thyrsos und Fackel, die dritte – sich umwendend – schlägt ein tympanon, den Abschluss bildet eine weitere Mänade mit thyrsos und nach hinten geworfenem Kopf. Auch diese tragen Efeukranz und Peplos, eine mit Hirschfell. Namensbeischriften identifizieren die beiden mittleren als Choreia und Thaleia. Rechts und links fliehen je zwei Ägypter, die ein Messer, eine Doppelaulos und ein Hasenfell (?) tragen. Vor dem Altar auf dem Boden liegt ein flacher kanoun. Seite B: Zweikampf Achill gegen Memnon: Auf der linken Seite steht Hermes (mit caduceus und Flügelschuhen) mit der Seelenwaage flankiert von Achill und Memnon in voller Rüstung. Auf der rechten Seite stehen Eos und Thetis mit ausgestreckten Armen vor dem thronenden Götterpaar Zeus und Hera, um für ihre Söhne zu bitten.

Description: stamnos, vase painting, red figured, Attica – Material: terracotta – Artist: Polygnotos – Dating: -450/-425 – Discovery: Cerveteri, Caere – Description: A-Seite: Links bärtiger, bekleideter, bekränzter Mann mit Kylix (keine Phiale, wie Nordquist meint!) spendend; in der Mitte Altar mit Osphys, Blut, Holz und Flammen; rechts zwei nackte Splanchnoptai (bekränzt): Jüngling (Archenautes), der einen obelos mit Fleisch über den Altar hält; es handelt sich um einen leicht konkav geschwungenen Block-Altar auf zweistufiger Basis, darauf Deckplatte, Holzstoss, Feuer, Tierreste; rechts daneben Jüngling, der einen obelos mit Fleisch hochhält; Dahinter bekleideter Flötenspieler. Über dem Altar fliegende Nike mit Oinochoe (nicht erhalten). B-seite: 3 Jünglinge – Inscriptions: Archenautes; Nikodemos; Kalos (oder Nikodemos kalos); SosiFos (statt Sositos).
