Zentral steht ein hoher Altar aus Feldsteinen errichtet mit durchgehender Steinplatte oben und unten, darauf brennt ein Feuer. Auf oder hinter dem Altar steht ein Kultbild der Göttin mit Krone auf einer kleinen Säule. Links neben dem Altar steht Herakles mit erhobener linker Hand, oberkörperfreiem Gewand und Kranz auf dem Haupt, den Kopf und die rechte Hand zu Iolaos zurückgewandt. Von rechts kommt Nike mit einem chernibeion (ungewöhnliche Form) und einem flachen kanoun mit drei Zweigen. Hinter ihr öffnet ein Knabe einen Kasten, der am Boden steht. Seite B: Drei Jünglinge im Mantel. – Inscriptions: Namensbeischriften: ???e??, ??a????, ???s?, ????.

Von links nähert sich Lichas mit dem Opferstier, rechts ein Opferdiener mit chernibeion und einem flachen Tablett mit Füsschen und drei aufgesteckten Zweigen. Im Hintergrund steht eine Säule, an der die Keule des Herakles angelehnt ist. Hinter Herakles steht ein hoher Dreifuss, von dem eine Binde hängt.

In der Bildmitte die Kultstatue der Chryse mit Krone und zwei erhobenen Armen auf einer hohen Säule, davor ein aus Feldsteinen errichteter Altar, auf dem eine Platte mit Holzscheiten liegt. Links daneben Herakles auf die Keule gestützt, in der Linken hält er einen Zweig. Rechts des Altars steht ein bekränzter Begleiter (Lichnas?) mit einem kanoun mit Opfergaben in der Linken, mit der Rechten hält er einen chernibon über den Altar. Von links führt ein weiterer bekränzter Begleiter an einem Seil einen Stier heran, der ebenfalls einen Kranz trägt. Im oberen Register sitzen rechts Athena mit Helm und Speer und links ein junger Mann, vor dem Hermes mit kerykeion steht. Rechts unten sitzt Apollon mit Lorbeerzweig, vor ihm steht eine weitere männliche Figur. Seite B: Satyren und Mänaden.

Description: crater: bell crater, vase painting, red figured, Attica – Material: terracotta – Dating: -450/-425 – Discovery: unknown – Description: Opferszene: Herakles (links auf Steinen sitzend) mit zwei Begleitern im Heiligtum der Chryse, die an einem aus Feldsteinen errichteten Altar (nicht vollständig erhalten; darauf: Holzstoss, Schwanz eines Opfertieres) ein Opfer vollziehen. Links und rechts des Altars halten die beiden Begleiter als splanchnoptai obeloi über den Altar. Das Kultbild (nur der untere Teil ist erhalten) steht auf einer Säule vor dem Altar, im Hintergrund hängen 3 figürlich bemalte pinakes an einem Baum. Rechts schliessen sich Athena und eine weitere Göttin an, von der nur die Hände und ein Teil des Gewandes erhalten sind. – Inscriptions: Namensbeischriften erlauben die Identifikation der Begleiter des Herakles als Philoktet und Lichas: F???S???, ??[??S].
