Re. steht Odysseus und weist Achilleus den Weg, daneben am re. Rand ein Trompeter. Aussenrand: a) Geburt. Thetis liegt auf einer Kline, der kleine Achilleus sitzt davor auf dem Boden. Die Geste der vor dem Bett stehenden Frau lässt eher an eine Weissagerin als an eine Dienerin denken, wahrscheinlich eine Moire. b) Feiung in der Styx. Li. hält Thetis ihren Sohn in die Styx; re. steht neben einem Badebecken eine Amme mit einem grossen Tuch bereit, um Achilleus abzutrocknen. c) Übergabe an Cheiron. Thetis, von einer Amme oder Dienerin begleitet, übergibt ihren Sohn an Cheiron. d) Ernährung des Achilleus bei Cheiron. Li. sitzt Achilleus auf einem Felsen und streckt Cheiron beide Hände entgegen. Der Kentaur reicht ihm seine re. Hand und trägt in der li. eine Löwin an der Hintertatze. Neben dem Felsen liegen ein erlegter Keiler und ein Löwe. e) Jagd. Achilleus sitzt auf Cheirons Rücken und zielt mit seinem Speer auf einen Keiler. Dazwischen ein Baum, der den waldreichen Pelion andeutet. Oben re. flieht ein Panther. f) Schreibunterricht. Achilleus (Chlamys) steht li. und hält eine Klapptafel für Schreibübungen in seinen Händen. Ihm gegenüber sitzt Cheiron auf seinen Hinterbeinen und erteilt Ermahnungen (Gestus der Adlocutio). Achilleus (Chlamys) steht li. und hält eine Klapptafel für Schreibübungen in seinen Händen. Ihm gegenüber sitzt Cheiron auf seinen Hinterbeinen und erteilt Ermahnungen (Gestus der Adlocutio). Die Frau in der Mitte ist vielleicht Chariklo, die Gemahlin des Cheiron, vielleicht auch die Muse Kalliope. g) Musikunterricht. Li. steht Cheiron mit erhobener re. Hand. Re. Achilleus in Rückansicht mit abweisender Geste, sich weigernd das unten liegende Instrument aufzuheben, da er sich lieber im Kämpfen üben will, wie der Schild unter seinem re. Arm zeigt. h) Rückgabe an Thetis. Li. sitzt Cheiron auf seinen Hinterbeinen, stützt sich auf seinen Stock und streckt seine re. zum Gruss nach Thetis aus. Die Göttin kommt in Begleitung einer Diener
