Description: Cup, vase painting, black figured, Attica – Material: terracotta – Dating: -710/-700 – Discovery: AthensDipylon area – Description: Probably one of the earliest images of a religious procession, one side of the cup’s interior shows the damaged figure of a seated goddess (Athena Polias?) who is approached by four women holding branches and clasping their hands. The one closest to the goddess carries a circular object surrounded by dots, perhaps a wreath.
