Description: Skyphos, vase painting, black figured, Attica – Material: terracotta – Artist: Theseus Painter – Dating: -500/-490 – Discovery: Bologna, Felsina, Bononia – Description: Between pipe-playing satyrs Dionysos is sitting in a ship-chariot with a beak in form of an animal-head. The chariot is pulled by two satyrs; following the ship-car is a youth in a short dress; a procession of six figures; first the kanephoros, then a youth holding a thymiaterion and two men with sprigs; finally two more men with a bull. – Because of their curious iconography, the scenes must depict a specific festival in honor of Dionysos.
